Preparing and storing your caravan for winter
Winter has arrived in the UK and, along with it, the end of the caravanning season. If you’ve enjoyed your last trip of the season, you probably know that it’s time to retire your caravan until the spring. With low caravan storage prices 2019 and an ideal location which is just 10 minutes from Junction 4 or Junction 6 of the M25 (off the A25 Westerham Road), we feel that we have got your caravan storage needs covered. But is your unit really ready for storage?
There is plenty that needs to be done to ensure that your caravan is in excellent working condition when you’re ready for your next trip. Here are a few pointers to winterproof your unit for storage:
1. Clean and protect the exterior
Before storing a caravan, it should be thoroughly cleaned. An overwintering wax covering can be applied or a fabric cover can be pulled over the unit.
2. Clean and ventilate the interior
Vacuum and thoroughly clean the interior space. Make sure that there’s nothing left in the cupboards and drawers. Leave doors open for ventilation (this helps prevent damp) and leave blinds open (this helps to avoid the springs stretching).
3. Avoid frost damage with draining
Ensure that your water systems are completely drained. Even the smallest amount of water can turn to frost and cause very expensive damage.
4. Disconnect the battery
If your caravan will be stored for a few months, it’s best to disconnect the battery connections and ensure that all electrics are turned to the off position within the unit. If you are storing the unit for an extended time period, it is best to take the battery home where you can periodically charge it.
5. Service it!
Winter is a great time to get your caravan serviced. This means that it really will be 100% ready for you next season. With such competitive caravan storage prices in 2019, you are bound to have a little extra available to spend on a full clean and service.
