Keeping your collectibles safe and ensuring they keep their value
If you’re a collector, then keeping your collection safe is likely to be your top priority. Whether you collect sports memorabilia, antiques or props from TV or film, your collection will be valuable to you and it may even be worth a fair amount of money. Most collectors aim to keep their items in the best condition to guarantee value, but this isn’t always easy to do. There are a number of things that can put your collection at risk, or mean that storing your collection at home isn’t the best option, these include:
Living with children
Children are very curious and this isn’t great when you have a collection of valuable items. If you have children and you’re a collector, it’s best to get your valuable items as far away from them as possible.
Living with pets
Pets and valuable collections don’t usually work well together, like children, pets can be curious and like to explore their surroundings. This can mean that your collection could easily get destroyed by an over-excited dog or cat, or soiled. Cats and dogs can also malt significantly, meaning that your collection is at risk of becoming contaminated by pet hair. Some pet owners are also unaware that items stored in a home with pets can pick up pet odours easily that are difficult to remove.
Living in an area with a high crime rate
If you live in an area that is more susceptible to crimes like burglary then you may worry about the safety of your collection. If you live in a rented property, you may not have the option of adding security precautions to the property.
What can you do to protect your collection?
If you relate to any of the above, then you may want to consider putting your collection in storage. Storing your collection in a self-storage unit means you’ll be able to access it whenever you require, but you’ll also be able to rest easy that your items are safe and in the condition that you want them in. Self-storage also frees up space in your home and is very reasonably priced.
